About VOY
Founded in 2016, Voices of the Young (VOY) is a youth-led non-profit organisation committed to empowering young people to take action and create positive change in their communities. We believe that young people are not just beneficiaries, but essential actors in building a peaceful and just society. Our mission is to inspire, equip and engage young people as agents of peace and development.
Background
For too long, young people's voices have been excluded from key decisions that shape their future, whether in local communities, national governments or global forums. Young people have often been treated as passive recipients rather than contributors, and policies that affect them have been designed without their input, leading to ineffective outcomes.
At times, young people have been unfairly labelled as the source of social problems associated with crime, drug abuse and violence, increasing the gap between them and decision-makers.
But times are changing. Organisations such as the United Nations, through initiatives such as the Security Council Resolution 2250, have recognised the importance of youth participation in peacebuilding.
What we do
VOY focuses on supporting government and community efforts to empower young people and build peaceful, thriving communities. Through our programs and initiatives, we inspire young people to develop critical life skills, build leadership capacity, and engage in constructive peace and development processes.
